Parkside sits just south of our Sunset blocks, along the L Taraval line between Sunset Boulevard and Stern Grove. From 1726 Great Hwy it is a few minutes down the Great Highway, so Parkside calls get the same fast dispatch as our own street.
Alfonso Garage Door covers Parkside from our own shop at 1726 Great Hwy, about ten minutes north. Parkside was laid out in the 1900s and built up through the 1920s and 30s in the same stucco rowhouse pattern as the Sunset: a full-width garage at street level with the living floor above. We replace the springs and cables those doors wear through, put off-track doors back on their rails, fix openers that stopped answering the remote, and install new doors when a 1930s wood panel finally gives out.
Parkside runs roughly from Quintara Street south to Sloat Boulevard and Stern Grove, and from about 19th Avenue west to Sunset Boulevard. The blocks came up a little earlier than the Outer Sunset, so the mix is wider: 1920s stucco rows with narrow single-car openings, 1930s and 40s houses with the standard eight-foot tuck-under, and a scattering of later rebuilds with wider doors and modern openers.
The narrow openings are the recurring job. A 1920s garage built for a Model A often has a door under seven feet wide, which rules out the stock sizes on the truck and means a measured order or a careful panel repair. The other regular call is the door that has been repainted six times and is now heavier than its springs were ever rated for; we re-spring for the real weight instead of the original spec.
Most Parkside homes have their own curb cut, so we park across the driveway apron and work straight into the garage. The exceptions are the blocks right on Taraval Street, where the L Taraval tracks and merchant parking make a service truck stop awkward; on those calls we usually tuck in on the side street and carry parts the last fifty feet.
Sunset Boulevard's greenbelt splits the neighborhood, and the pedestrian crossings there back traffic up in the afternoon. Coming from the shop we take the Great Highway down to Sloat or Taraval and come in from the west, which keeps most of Parkside inside a ten-minute drive.

It does. Parkside is a few blocks inland from the Outer Sunset, so the salt is a little lighter, but we still see rust on springs and cables well before their rated cycle count. A yearly lube and tune slows it down noticeably.
