A ripped, cracked, or flattened garage door weather seal is more than just an eyesore. It’s an open invitation for rain, cold drafts, dust, rodents, and insects. A damaged seal compromises your garage’s insulation, drives up energy bills, and leaves your stored items vulnerable to water damage and pests.
At Alfonso Garage Door, we specialize in replacing all types of garage door weather stripping. This includes the bottom seal, the side and top stop molding, and the retainer it sits in. We provide fast, same-day service throughout the Bay Area to make your garage weathertight again.
For many homeowners, yes, this is one of the more DIY-friendly garage door repairs. However, it can be tricky, and calling a pro ensures it’s done right.
Identify the Seal: The bottom seal slides into a metal track called a retainer. You need to identify the type (T-shape, U-shape, bulb, etc.) and width.
Attempt Removal: The old seal should slide out one side (you may need to remove screws). If it’s old, it may be brittle and break off in pieces.
Clean the Retainer: Use a putty knife to clean any old debris out of the retainer track.
Damaged Retainer: The metal retainer track that holds the seal is bent, rusted, or damaged. A new seal won’t work if the retainer is bad.
Stuck Seal: The old seal is rusted or “glued” in and won’t come out without a fight.
Top and Side Seals: Replacing the wood or vinyl “stop molding” on the perimeter requires precise cutting and nailing to create a tight seal without making the door stick.
Unsure of the Part: If you buy the wrong type of seal, it won’t fit or will fall out. We stock all professional-grade types.
