Corroded springs lose strength and snap; rusted cables fray; pitted rollers bind in the track. The closer you are to Ocean Beach, the faster it happens.

How to slow the damage
- Lubricate every few months. A proper garage-door lubricant on springs, hinges, and rollers displaces moisture and slows corrosion. Don’t use WD-40 as a long-term lube.
- Ask for corrosion-resistant hardware. Galvanized or coated springs and nylon rollers hold up far better near the coast than bargain steel.
- Keep the weather seal intact. A good bottom seal keeps fog-driven damp out of the garage.
- Get an annual tune-up. A yearly inspection catches a fraying cable or weakening spring before it strands you.
When it’s already gone too far
